Magnolia Green’s Cookbook Club

Introducing MG’s Cookbook Club!

A monthly gathering of ‘foodies’ to explore new recipes, cookbooks and cooking techniques. We will meet on a monthly basis at the MG multi-purpose room at the fitness center. A cookbook will be decided upon and supplied at the library in the fitness center where you will be able to select a recipe, prepare it at home and bring it to a pot luck style dinner to share with friends and neighbors.

Our first gathering with feature Ina Garten aka The Barefoot Contessa, Foolproof: Recipes You Can Trust. You are surely going to find recipes for new dishes to grace your table over the upcoming holiday season in this book! Sign up now and come hungry!

Coach Alan is providing all the eating utensils AND wine.

When choosing your recipe, bring your phone so you can take a picture of it since the cookbook cannot be taken from the fitness center. Be sure to notate your chosen recipe with a provided post-it note to prevent duplication of dishes.

As a fitness trainer and health coach, I had the idea of starting up a cookbook club in Brunswick Forest where I do a lot of my training.  I wanted to promote healthy eating habits as a part of a healthier lifestyle. That was over 8 years ago. It has become so popular I have gone to hosting the club gatherings up to 3 times a month and there is still most often a waiting list to get in. Here are some of the common questions I get regarding our cookbook club:

Q….Is this a cooking class?

A….No, participants prepare their recipe at home and bring their dish to share.

Q….Do I have to buy the cookbook?

A….No, unless you just want to. The cookbook will be made available at the library in the fitness center. Please do not remove the book from the fitness center, and use your phone camera to take a pic of your chosen recipe. Click on the cookbook pic above for a link to the book on amazon. Although I have a good collection, I will be asking for suggestions for future cookbooks to feature. We’ll try to stay mostly with cookbooks featuring healthy eating, but we may choose to stray a little bit from that and feature some celebrity cookbooks or books from different ethnicities or cooking styles.

Q….May I bring a guest?

A…Of course, but your guest will be counted for one of the 15 spots available and everyone attending should be bring a prepared recipe from the book.

Q….What about food allergies or sensitivities?

A….We will have a brief discussion at the beginning of the meeting where everyone can present their dish to the group and talk about ingredients included.

Q….Do I need to double the recipe?

A….Most of the time, No. With up to 15 dishes to try, everyone just takes a sampling as opposed to a full serving. There will be plenty of food to go around!

Q….Do I need to bring anything other than my prepared dish?

A…Please bring any needed serving utensils. Plates, bowls, and cutlery will be supplied…..Oh, and did I mention wine (a red and white selection) will be provided??
